I've been playing drums for over 40 years and have had relationships (owned and
experimented) with electronic drums pretty much through-out that period, though
I've never considered them a *replacement* for acoustic drums, just an augment.

Before today, my most recent electronic "drum set" purchase was a Roland TD-8 V-
Stage (https://images.equipboard.com/uploads/item/image/7596/roland-td-8-electro
nic-drum-kit-xl.jpg)
that my wife got me for Valentine's Day back in '04 and I upgraded by adding a 1
5" ride/crash cymbal, a better hi-hat trigger, and an additional tom pad.

I've used this as a practice kit mainly and have kind of a love/hate relationshi
p with it - mainly issues with the hi-hat realism, the small snare pad, and the
terrible rack.

Roland has definitely made a lot of improvements since 2002 when this kit came o
ut, but they're terribly expensive. When I saw/heard their new digital snare and
ride cymbal last year, I started coveting a new Roland kit. And when I heard th
is year they added a new digital hi-hat to their top-end kits, well, I had to pu
ll the trigger (after a lot of analysis and negotiating with my wife). So today,
I ordered the very new and hard to find Roland TD-50K2:

My daughters and I have a music room in the house and everyone else in the house
prefers when we play the electronic drums with headphones (rather than the acou
stics, which are well, you know... loud). So we're super excited to get this new
level of playability and realism. Will be posting videos about it later.
