I don't know what you're replying to because you didn't quote, and I haven't
read this sub in *many* years. Whatever I said was said a long time ago and was
very possibly stupid. It was almost certainly an effort to stir up shit because
that amused me at the time and my life was boring.
I'll speak from my current perspective without necessarily defending what I said
earlier, because I'm not sure what that was.

Your position seems to be built on an assumption that "god" is necessary. I
suspect you can't fathom someone living a life without *something* taking on the
role of "god". It's a void that doesn't *need* to be filled.
You might want to respond with some slippery definition of what "god" means to
illustrate that I am my own god in some way, but please don't. If I said "god
does not exist" I meant I don't believe in God, heaven, hell, magic, etc. and
you know damn well that's what I meant.

I pity the religious only for whatever pain their religion brings them. If they
feel their prayers are useless and resent the effort, then yeah, I'm sorry they
are going through that. If they suffer from guilt, shame, feelings of
unworthiness resulting from their beliefs and not with some basis in rational
thought, I pity them for that too.
Beyond that? I don't care. Believe whatever you want, especially if it brings
you some comfort. As long as it isn't hurting anyone else.
