DS> (Continued from previous message)
(During which I went downstairs to get another cup of coffee.)
BM>Probably the same or at least similar rules for here. The Quad City
BM>International Airport (MLI) is several miles from the Mississippi River
BM>but don't know how much the River effects fog and cloud cover. Fog will
BM>form in the river valley -- local news will show a shot from their
BM>skycam -- sometimes the studio camera is showing nothing but gray from
BM>the fog, sometimes they're high enough (they're on a hill 8 blocks from
BM>the Mississippi) to be able to look over the fog.
DS> I may have noted this before...but, Little Rock National
DS> Airport is next to the Arkansas River...and that enhances the
DS> fog. The airlines have to have a MINIMUM of 100 feet of ceiling
DS> AND a half mile of visibility to take off and/or land. If EITHER
DS> or BOTH are below that, it's a ground stop. Outgoing flights are
DS> delayed, and incoming flights are diverted.
My guess is similar flight rules, though I haven't heard of too many
delays/cancellations due to problems here. That could just be because I
don't pay attention. OTOH does happen: ages ago was sitting at Chicago waiting
for a storm to pass so could take off. Storm passed, then had
to wait because another storm had hit here (so the flight could take off
but not land).
DS> With all the travel hassles (especially getting groped at the
DS> TSA checkpoint), I'm glad my travel days are over.
I was the 'training passenger' for one of the TSA agents years ago when
some enhanced screening took effect: just happened I was the first
person for the agent whop just came on duty on the first day of the regulation.
I had nothing to hide so not going to find anything, plus I
either was or had been Store Trainer so know people have to practice and
get used to procedures. The agent was professional but nervous: he
kept apologizing. No issues with inappropriateness; at the end I gave
his a brief critique and congratulated him.
