BM>Hi Daryl!
Hi, Barry...
BM>A friend of mine in Michigan also lives in subsidized housing becauuse
BM>of a medical condition and his building is also high on the list to get
BM>power restored quickly. There is also a generator for the elevators (10
BM>story building) and hallway lighting. Not sure about emergency power in
BM>the apartments -- don't think there is any as we've semi-kiddingly joked
BM>about a UPS for his CPAP machine ==> the sudden lack of air when the BM>power
goes out has wakened him; the UPS would keep the CPAP going but
BM>the UPS's alarm would probably wake him up!
There used to be a generator out here at one time, plus a "pull cord"
for an on duty nurse, and an alarm system in every apartment. All those
are gone now. The residents who have alarm systems pay for those
themselves.
BM>Of course you love the thing you can't have!! Suppose you have looked
BM>into some countractive preperation or medication so you could partake on
BM>occasion.
I love cheesecake, etc. -- but the stuff is so rich, that it sets my digestive
tract off. Growing up, I'd remember buying cans of frosting,
and eating it as a meal. <G> A friend of mine said "his daughter just
loves ketchup!!". :P
BM>No, that was turkey!
Yep...the tryptophen. <SP?>
BM>I've had kidney stones since college so lots of water -- almost like a
BM>little kid who loves to investigate the rest rooms when shopping!
I drink 2 liters of flavored water a day...mainly strawberry and peach
flavored. I have Lasix if I get real bloated, but on those days, I'm
running to my orifice...the little Sysops room...every 5 minutes. :P
BM>I got started in Electronics by Dad teaching me while helping with basic
BM>wiring around the house, though I don't recall anything other than a
BM>lamp rewiring. OTOH did take me downtown when the Hallicrafters (anyone
BM>remember that brand?) TV was being repaired -- down narrow stairs into BM>the
basement, plus a dark area (probably stock) towards and finally into BM>a lit
area with the electronics being repaired!
Oh, yes...them, plus Heathkit, Drake, and a bunch of others are spoken
of fondly by long time ham radio operators.
BM>Later received a Radio Shack 80-in-1 (?) electronics kit ==> some parts
BM>connected to spring connectors, add wires and some other parts. BM>Eventually
friends of the family (who worked for the same company but in BM>different sites
as I did years later) got me further into electronics. BM>Always a hobby, never
any formal training -- or much informal for that BM>matter.
I worked a little bit with those, but all I know now is that as little
as one amp of electricity can do you in...plus how to tell the colors on
the resistor...thanks to Violet. <BG>
BM>Right. Side note: always 'loved' the laywer commericals "if you or a BM>love
one died..." So if you're dead how are you supposed to call?!
Really. Some of the commercials are so stupid. It's like with the
medications the doctors prescribe, the side effects are 50 times worse
than what it's designed to deal with.
Such as "Side effects may include death". Well, WTH am I taking it
for?? :P
Comedian Jeff "You Might Be A Redneck" Foxworthy, did a skit on that,
which is a scream...it's at:
