For the end user, I wonder if it still works like a regular phone line.  One of
the advantages of a land line phone was that it would still work even if your
house lost power, so you could call emergency services or family if you needed
to.  I wonder if the VoIP lines work the same way.  But of course, many people
here have cell phones instead of a land line.  A cell phone can still work in
an emergency as long as its battery has a charge and it has a signal..
