Yes, I've had that experience too. In two years of work, I brought a 40-year-old
C64 BBS from Hamburg back online. Most people just come in to say hello, regist
er as a new user, and then you never see them again. They just want a quick nost
algia flash. Am I disappointed because of that? Yes and no. On one hand, it's a
shame we no longer have the traffic from 1985. The BBS heyday is simply over. No
t very surprising.
On the other hand, I could fulfill a dream of mine by playing the role of Sysop.
In the 1980s and 90s, I was always "just" a user. And being a Sysop is really f
un. I've met many great people through the Snobsoft BBS. For example, I became a
ware of Partybowl and Synchronet through it.

Something interesting happened just
now. I actually wanted to check out the usual internet forums, but I felt much m
ore like having a BBS session - and here I am :-).
