I'm guessing this was a factory/shop union also? You can blame the UAW for
messing it up for the rest of the factories/shops and adding, if not creating
people's sour taste of unions. :)

That's ridiculous, but then again, that was back in the 90s.

I agree, it's completely different when your wages aren't even enough to live
off of (even for the 90s). But, I'm also happy to hear they went under and are
no longer. THAT is definitely not my definition of a good union.

I don't know about factories, but in my line of work they kind of have to be.
They are an all around 'company' who provides the manpower to the companies that
are signatory to the union. They also manage our money, take care of our
benefits, etc. This is all in house, too. Everyone in the union office is also a
journeyman ironworker, from the president down, and elected by the members.

Don't get me wrong, I know there's some back end political bullshit, but as long
as it doesn't bother or affect me (it doesn't), I don't care. If they want to
send me a flyer or two during election time to tell me who they're endorsing,
and that's about it (which is probably their little 'nudge nudge' without
actually telling you who to vote for).

Regards,
Nick
