Try CTRL-ALT-ESC -- should make turn your mouse cursor into a skull and
crossbones. Now click the app you want to force-quit. Rinse and repeat
until the system unfreezes, or everything is closed. Usually whatever
app is on top is the culprit so killing it unsticks everything.
