It happened the same with Freenode, actually, when people started advising frien
ds to leave en masse because rumors they were getting about the new ownership. I
t was very political. There was a lot of FUD regarding the new management using
system logs to chase gays down.
Eventually, Freenode fell because the new management was inept. The herd mentall
ity of the userbase was disturbing, though.
