Telegram (+ @Fido2telebot) may not be the best final solution..
but it's a useful option and a step forward to reach smartphone
users.

User's of Telegram don't get any of the "weird view" channels
unless they actually look for then and join them. There are no
ads promoting that stuff unlike the "Suggestions" system found
on Facebook for example. You can be certain that Facebook is
to be trusted much less than Telegram. ;)
The Fidonet groups are private. In otherwords, searching for
"asian_link" in the standard S)earch feature won't turn
anything up. Prospective participants need to use the
specially crafted invite-link that the @Fido2telebot provides
following the %LINK command.
This privacy also makes sure that no robots or spammers can
post anything.
The one for this echo is:
ASIAN_LINK (https://t.me/+TlC5K7EkqxOR8E4u) - ASIAN_LINK is a
friendly international Fidonet chat echo. All are welcome to
participate.
You can see the little intro-page on the web before you join!

Telegram on it's own can also be used to make live-voice
"calls" between contacts. It's rather quite efficient that
way.

I'll use it to primarily have it notify me when a post is made
in a favourite echo. Then, it's a quick way to just take a look
at the messages from the convenience of the phone that might be
my my beside.
If I want to engage in a reply, I simply use the desktop
version of the app on my computer - as I am doing now - 'cuz
typing all this is much easier with a full-size keyboard.
As people are introduced to the content on some basic Fidonet
echos, hopefully they can be steered toward other tools (nntp,
offline readers, bbsing, etc) to get a more emmersive
experience of echomail - if they want - just as you have done
with the newly revived and well-supported Winpoint!
