I can only speak for germany
The disadvantage here in Germany is simply that renting servers, which also have
a large storage capacity, is simply unaffordable! If I only have a manageable
database, it is of course cheaper. That's what I did with my BBS forum and
rented
a server ($28/month). But with a BBS with a large file base it is unaffordable.
