Yeah. This particular phone, a Motorola, doesn't allow moving apps to SD,
only photos, music etc. I used to habe a Samsung or LG that allowed apps and
their storage to be on an SD card. That would likely work better for me.
AA> CP> But there has always been complaints about changes to how

AA> I'm ok with that. Some initial complaints take the form of

Unfortunately, you're going to have that. You'll never be able to please
everyone.
AA> CP> "Privacy" concerns just seem to loom larger these days than
AA> CP> in the past.
AA> There is no provision in Fido technology for privacy. Everything

I think that at least some of the privacy concerns are a matter of
perspective.
Yes, Fidonet is a public forum of sorts, but it is operated on private
systems by individuals. I would guess the privacy in most cases is more about it
being posted outside of Fidonet.
Once the understanding that Telegram Groups aren't a "public" forum that
anyone can see, but have to be joined like a BBS does, those questions seemed
too go away.
AA> CP> Again, I still say it was a communication problem. I
AA> CP> remember Carol mentioning at least that the link was coming.
AA> CP> That's more than those echos you mention above did.
AA> True. I got the moderator approvals, but the moderators did not
AA> say "wait until we make an announcement". A day or two later, I forwarded
AA> the info to Stas, and then a day or two later, Stas
AA> worked on getting feeds. The total time for all that took about a
AA> week for the 1st echo go live. I think it was nearly 2 weeks
AA> before one of the later echos went live. If a moderator was
AA> concerned about communication there was plenty of time to achieve
AA> that in their own echo. ;) But none of the mods spoke up or
AA> raised concerns at the time.
The moderators obviously didn't have the concerns. Those came from
users/sysops that had no idea that the echos were going to be gated.
The moderators could have let their respective echos know beforehand, That way,
those people with questions could voice them and they could be
addressed.Instead, they got the appearance of "Hey, this echo is being broadcast
on the internet now". That's not actually the case, but it could seem that way
to people that do 't know what Telegram is.
AA> But then, do you expect that every time a sysop changes to host
AA> their BBS on a new VPS and other "obviously commericial" servers?
AA> ;)
You wouldn't accept my argument that the Telegram Groups are a de facto BBS,
with Stas's bot being the mailer/tosser, but you're going to compare it to a BBS
changing hosts?
I'm just saying, although I see the Telegram groups linked to FTN Echos as a
type of BBS, it is still something not very well known to the BBS public.
I accept some responsibility as well. I was working on an article for
Fidonews or fidogazette or both, but my wifeps illness kept me from finishing
it.
AA> CP> Yes, there are going to be some users and even sysops
AA> CP> opposed to the idea, but they are free to no longer
AA> CP> participate in the echo if it bothers them that much.
AA> Absolutely. Freedom is wonderful.
AA> I am enjoying the Fidonews postings from 30 year ago to comp.org.fidonet.
AA> Man.. users and sysops really seemed to care
AA> about the progress of the hobby back then. In one of the latest
AA> issues was a concern to be expected to carry a specific echo and
AA> even the carry the Fidonews newsletter itself.

You still have people like that. And you have people that love their software
that they've used for decades and don't like change. Unfortunately, the later
group is far more vocal about it, at least in Z1 from what I can tell.
