The way I've interpreted the instructions is to hold down the right ALT
key (as opposed to the one on the left, or the correct one -- here we go
with wacky English again!) plus SysRq (a.k.a. "Print Screen"), and while holding
those slowly type the letters REISUB -- "several second pause
between entering the letters". There was a comment some keyboards don't
like four-key combinations, such as if using a laptop keyboard and to
turn on/active need to also use the (blue) Function key.
I have gotten 'REISUB' to work on this computer, with this keyboard
(there was also mention some keyboards don't work), and as you said you
have never gotten it to work at least I know it's not just me. I would
rather do the 'graceful shutdown' thing, but if I can't don't really
have a choice.

OK -- I've tried having the mouse and keyboard plugged into a (powered)
Hub the past couple of months - before then and with previous computers
they were plugged in directly (to the rear panel) via USB extension
cables. Changed to plugging in to the Hub only as part of the Cleaning
Up Project, partially in preperation for the new computer here. ...Some
of those cables snaked between the desk and the wall have been back
there for ages -- VGA?! And there was an old serial cable. Just didn't
want to take the time to untangle.
