I'm sure not many of us remember those days. eBay used to be one of my go-to's
when it game to shopping for affordable electronics, particularly amateur radio
equipment. You could trust the sellers because they were pretty much all
hobbyists who knew the value of reputation. It was also entirely an auction
site which meant the buyers set the price. This was before the days of even
"buy it now." Heck... I promised my buddy if he got his ham ticket I'd set
him up with a 2 meter HT and base setup. Bought the radios for less than $50.
Granted they were crystal controlled and I had to buy crystals, but he had a
Wilson HT and a mobile mounted to a power supply/speaker set up. Bought
crystal pairs to hit all the local repeaters and two simplex frequencies.
Damn... I digress.... Suffice it to say I logged into eBay a couple of weeks
ago and was surprised my account was still active. It's been a couple of
years. It's definitely turned into a big money grab. Gone are the days of
there actually being an eBay community where you knew and trusted most of the
buyers and sellers....
... Excuse me... What does God need with a Starship?
