No, this will be in production as a very important NAS. 

But... are you stating that its not suggested to leave the Perc 730 Mini as the
front 12 drive bays card and adding a second complete HBA to control the other
'rail' - the other SAS/SATA port??

I'll research before, for sure. While I would prefer to pass the HBA completely
to a TrueNAS VM, I won't lose TOO MUCH i/o if I just pass individual drives to
the TrueNAS VM w/o PCI pasthrough.

I want to do it the right way, so I appreciate you mentioning this. I could also
take the rear 2 2.5" bays off the Perc 730 and just use the physical SATA
connections on the mobo for them... decisions decisions...
