Absolutely. Don't forget that there's a huge decentralized free, open-source so
ftware (FOSS) of social media out there (sometimes called the "Fediverse"). Fede
rated Social Media has sprung up everywhere, allowing the use of the ActivityPub
protocol to allow everyone to start up their own Twitter (Mastodon), YouTube (P
eerTube), Instagram (Pixelfed), and the like, and they can all talk to one anoth
er and federate easily and selectively.

I feel that, even though the Federation / Fediverse has been a nerdy experiment
mostly among fringe and nerds, the dramatic increase in it (namely, Mastodon) th
anks to Tusk's acquisition of Twitter is going to launch a new renaissance. Defi
nitely provides food for thought along-side the Alt Soc Med.
