Fidonet has its own little society inside of it that is unfortunately lost
on recent members. It was really "barely controlled anarchy" in its heyday.
Now it's much more subtle, moribund, and there's people who still wish for
zone wars and to be distruptive simply because they have a moribund life
themselves and feel they have to try to exert control over others to make
themselves feel important.
Most of the ne'er-do-wells you see here in Fidonet have been doing this
stupid stuff for decades. Wilfred van Veltzen is a recent addition to this
"rogues' gallery" but he falls flat on his face as he does not have the
fire, nuance, or the vulgar "je ne sais quoi" of the older generation of
fools. <G>
I have run my own FTN network, The Micronet Information Network,
successfully for the past 22 years and it's never had the problems Fidonet
has and for good reason. I stick around Fidonet as I have long-time friends
here (most of whom are in Micronet as well) and I get a kick out of seeing these
same fools doing the same thing decades later and not realizing how idiotic they
are. Every time they post, I am grateful that I am not like
that. <G>
