Hi Daryl!
BM>Unfortunately not an unexpected reaction by your brother, leaving all
BM>the work for you. Hopefully some money and other assets for the two of
BM>you; maybe enough to take that final railroad trip.
DS> Unfortunately, there are too many red flags for doing vacations
DS> out of town anymore than just "a day trip"...such as:
Agree but...
DS> 1) Home security while you're away...even with an alarm system.
DS> You can't just "drop what you're doing, and come home".
Could be home and have something happen. I'm safer if I'm not at the
house, notified of a problem at the house (home invasion, etc.), and
call the Police to take care of it.
DS> 2) Transportation logistics...whether at the bus station, train
DS> depot, airport, or if you drive, or take a taxi.
OK, admittedly can be delayed for a variety of reasons like I had in my flights
to and from visting my Aunt. Neither one of us work, so no big
deal if come home a day late.
DS> 3) Costs at the places you stay (food and lodging).
OK, might have me there. We're not in condition for overnighting in
tents or sleeping in the car. Probably could find cheap lodging. As
for food, many have a breakfast buffet; go later in the morning and have
an early lunch. There was a grocery store about a block from the hotel;
not supposed to cook in the hotel room but there was a microwave and a
place setting so no problems eating. (I ate lunch and dinner Aunt's but
did stop at the store seveal times a week.)
DS> 4) Bedbugs -- you surely don't want these critters coming back
DS> home with you!!
Uh, no! If I thought a problem I probably not be staying there because
if have bed bugs there are probably other problems.
DS> I think after the trip to the square dance weekend in Clinton,
DS> Arkansas, that I'm going to hang it up, travel wise...and save
DS> what money I get for upcoming expenses.
And of course another option is to make home a vacation site
-'staycation'. Before the maple in the back yard died people said our backyard
looked like a park.
