Folks on Little Diomede Island in the Bering Straits can see Big Diomede
Island about 2╜ to the west. Little Diomede is less than 2╜ square miles.
That is the place referred to when someone mentions seeing Russia from
Alaska.
To get an idea of how much can be seen, find an island in an ocean about
2-3 miles offshore. You won't see much without a clear day and good
binoculars.
