Hi Daryl!

BM> Hmm: wonder if that's why mine is chiming all the time?!
DS> My EAS alert went off for the "Amber Alerts" (Child Abduction
 DS> Emergencies).

Mine has too, and the screen stayed on until I acknowledged the alert.

BM> That would be w--. That is just w---. It would be not quite right!
DS> I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong...and I thought
DS> I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

That's right!

BM> Not always an understanding of English but interpretation. Lots of
BM> regional terms in the U.S. which make sense in one part of the country
BM> but might not in another. "I'll meet you by the bubbler." <other
BM> scratching head> Water fountain - those things one used to be able to
 BM> drink from in public!
DS> At one of the overseas hotels, the English translation was
DS> "Guests are invited to take advantage of the chambermaid". <G>

Oh dear!

BM> Off-hand with billing I don't know of any regionalisms. LIS in an
BM> earlier message, without seeing the publication I couldn't make any
BM> direct suggestions other than putting the information in a separate box and
BM> make the address large enough.
DS> But, some folks still can't follow directions.

Unfortunately yes; true of a lot of situations.

BM> We just discovered why the rats moved in: they though you were one of
 BM> them!!
DS> I am having a heck of a time to get Terminix back to remove the
DS> dead critters. They are so busy right now.

Terminex or the dead critters?! Hey, it is almost Halloween: maybe the
dead critters are planning their hauntings!!

DS> Damn...that's probably why the rodents showed up last year. :P
 BM> Wee-hee! Cousin Daryl done invit us'ns!!
 DS> <grumble!><curse!><swear!>

Go find the _I Love Lucy_ episodes when Tennessee Ernie Ford is guest
starring and visits the 'Rick-ah-does'. :)

DS> On the rail lines, if the signal is "dark", you have to stop
DS> the train, and contact the dispatcher to find out if it's safe to
 DS> proceed.
BM> Makes sense; glad they don't have car drivers do that!!
DS> They do it whether the lights work or not.

Wrong interpretation of the book _The Little Engine That Could_: "I
think I can! I think I can!" does not mean race the train through the
flashing gate lights!

DS> While not totally clean shaven, the hair and beard are far
 DS> shorter than they were.
BM> Dummy: winter's coming and you'll be chilly until it grows back!
DS> It can grow pretty quick...especially the beard.

Especially during full moons!!

BM> Cue Carley Simon: _Anticipation_. ...Oh, that's ketchup, nevermind!
DS> Now, I need to go get some White Castle Cheeseburgers, or the
DS> chicken fries I have in the icebox.

Never had a White Castle; before Hy-Vee's remodel did see them in the
frozen section occasionally -- probably more I happened to glance at the
right section rather than in/out of stock. And probably still stocked,
just not looking around in that section.

As for 'chicken fries', I'm thinking a French Fry with a batter coating
but could be around here what is referred to as 'chicken fingers': long
narrow strips of chicken in a coating, about 3 or 4 inches long by 3/4"
wide.

... Good manners to eat chicken w your fingers? No, eat fingers separately.
