Tim,
TS@> Very cool, did'nt know QRZ had a shareware collection :) I truly don't
TS@> know what CD I have, I found it, along with just about the whole
TS@> nightowl collection in iso format online, it was like a gold mine, here is
TS@> a starter link for you on nightowl, you'll find all the ones you
TS@> want.
I had purchased many of their callsign CD's, and used it in a door on the BBS,
that was prepared by the late Dave Perry, W4KGU (SK). QRZ quit making
the datafiles for the door as of May 1, 2016, and the last set I was able
to get was on April 25, 2016. You can get callsign data from other callsign
servers such as HamData, and the QRZ website.
If there was a way I could implement another callsign search program,
with Doorway, under a "DOS Window in telnet" (under Windows 7 32-bit),
I'd use it instead. But, I don't know if one is available.
All of Dave Perry's doors did not have a fossil driver, so you need a
workaround to work it under a telnet BBS. Synchronet BBS software will let
you install it like a regular door, and you need a special VScript under
Virtual Advanced, and using the DoorWay program -- originally by Marshall
Dudley, now by Mike Ehlert. He does have a special price for Sysops for
a 4 node system.
His doors included the following:
ARPD - Amateur Radio Packet Door. Worked best with the long gone MFJ 1270 series
TNC's. It allowed licensed ham radio operators to connect to ones
TNC, and access the local packet network. It had difficulty working with
the Kantronics TNC's, and does NOT work with the KISS mode TNC's.
BULLET - A Bulletins door, for 26 different items. You can use it for
things like Ham Radio, Weather, BBS Related, or any topic desired.
QRZDOOR - Using the QRZ Callsign CD, one could look up callsign data from
QRZ. As noted, this data is no longer produced.
REGSCAN - Search Part 97 of the FCC Rules and Regulations, as they relate
to ham radio.
WASPORT - Track ones progress in the ARRL Worked All States (WAS) award.
It includes several modes, and bands, plus a Sysop definable mode. When
there is a "winner", the deal resets.
I have the BULLET and REGSCAN door open to all users on the BBS,
whether logged on as GUEST, or a regular user. However, one needs a
ham radio license (U.S. Novice Class or the equivalent)...for the
QRZDOOR and WASPORT door, and U.S. Technician Class or the
equivalent for the ARPD door.
If you want to grab those files, go to http://wx1der.dyndns.org --
choose File Areas, look for Ham Radio Files, and look for the filenames
of ARPD115.ZIP (packet door), BULLET11.ZIP (bulletins door), QRZDOOR.ZIP
(QRZ Callsign Door, a separate QRZ data CD is also required), REGSCAN.ZIP
(Part 97 FCC Rules, a copy of PART97.TXT is included), and WSPRT102.ZIP
(Worked All States). Further information on W4KGU's doors is in the
file W4KGU-DR.ZIP -- including how to set them up.
Also, I have a separate file board for the entire QRZ Shareware
collection.
TS@> This place is just heaven for SysOps and ham radio operaters alike:
TS@> https://archive.org/details/NightOwlSharewareVol13
I remember several volumes of NightOwl Shareware that were produced.
I guess I'll have to go there, and download stuff individually. I have
the room for the files...and I don't care if folks leech the files, or
if they just play the doorgames. As long as they're truthful with their
data (kept STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL, released only for law enforcement
subpeona or BBS rules violations), and don't abuse the BBS, it doesn't
bother me.
I did add your BBS to the "selected telnet BBS list" bulletin over here...I'll
have to add your system to my MTel Dialing Directory.
