So in my [democrat] city they had a referendum for our schools.
everybody will pay around 500 bucks more a year in house taxes because of it.
there's a lot of schools that are running at 60% and 14 that are less than half
full. they have a lot of teacher vancancies as well.
Recently we had another sales tax increase for city and county. those are 2
separate taxes. we also pay double for car registration if you are in city and
county. same with sewer,etc charges.
The city gets a fortune for metered parking and parking tickets and street
parking fees.
For a long time it looked like it wasn't going to pass. it got late and our
paper reported there was a problem with the computers. Then, late into the
night enough votes popped up for it to narrowly pass.
