On OpenBSD -stable you are very unlikely to break dependencies by mixing package
s and ports as long as you don't mess with core libraries. If you mess with core
 libraries you can actually survive anyway because it will only break stuff if y
ou make api/abi breaking changes.

On -current it is a different matter entirely, because stuff changes all the tim
e.
