EV>Howdy! Daryl,
Hi, Ed...
EV>I'm using the DOS version of MultiMail, the Windows version of MM uses
EV>Notepad.
Didn't know there was a DOS version of it. But, I've got OLX set up
and configured (plus registered; I don't think you can register it any
more), so, I'm going to stick with it.
EV>I opened Notepad and tried entering a Alt Number and saw nothing show up
EV>on the screen as You said it would.
Notepad can not handle the high ascii characters -- like holding the
ALT-key down, while you enter a number (i.e. 1 to 255), then releasing
the ALT key...then the high ascii character will appear.
EV>I quit using SLMR when I learned that MM showed ALL of the lines in long
EV>BBS messages.
I think OLX does, but I don't scroll through the long messages.
That's why when I post things like the Amateur Radio Newsline, I
intentionally split it up into 4 parts. Plus, the way it's downloaded
from their website, I have to reformat it for 75 characters per line, or
less...so it'll display in the message areas...as well as in the ham
radio doors on the BBS.
EV>Does OLX end messages as SLMR does?
I'm not sure.
EV>Didn't both Programs come from the same Company.
Yes, they did. OLX followed SLMR, and both were produced by Mustang
Software, which produced the Wildcat BBS Software.
EV>I also liked MM being able to save Taglines longer than 57 characters.
EV>I noticed when I used SLMR that Taglines in messages longer than 57 had
EV>the end of them cut off when I Added them to SLMR's TAGLINE.MR file.
That's the only limitation to OLX that I don't like...but I've gotten
so where I can deal with that.
EV>I have had a problem using MM when Mike Powell sends a message to Me in
EV>a local echo on His BBS.
EV>I then use SLMR to read His message to me when I get a .QWK packet
EV>containing one of those messages.
The main way I prefer to read messages on the BBS...email and
otherwise...is via QWK Mail.
EV>Otherwise I'm happy using MM, I occasionally use MM WIN when I want to EV>C&P
some text into a message that I'm writing.
I figured how to do that with OLX. It's the View File option under
V)iew. Then, you go to the ascii file you want, then copy the data.
Then, you go back to the original reply window, and click on Paste.
EV>I've tried the Sempoint reader for awhile, but went back to using MM
EV>(and SLMR occasionally) to read messages in .QWK packets.
I took a look at that, and wasn't that thrilled with it.
Daryl
